So I'm of course tempted to try some PC games out in Bootcamp now that I actually can. For a while I've wanted to try DEFCON so I downloaded Steam and got the demo. Started out with the tutorial, and I must say the game rocks. Except that there's one small problem...it locks up Windows after about 5 minutes of play. :/ I guess that's why Bootcamp is still in beta.

Anyway, a search online dug up the fact that Ambrosia is porting DEFCON to the Mac! Nice! Now I'll get to play it either way.

Hrm. I'll try it on mine and see if I have the same problem. Have you updated your video drivers? That could be it, if mine works.

I just have whatever Apple installed on the disc that you burn when you install Bootcamp. Windows Update didn't show anything needed updating though. *shrug*

Windows update is for OS related updates, not for updates for third party hardware that MS has no control over.

I guess I didn't realize that. I'm still thinking like OS X where they update the video drivers via the OS update as well, but I suppose since Apple has such tight control over the hardware they can do that. There aren't quite as many options as on the windows side.

Exactly.
And of cours you have a lot of people who tune their videocards or other parts of their hardware and who use custom drivers for them etcetera.
Can you imagine the amount of bitching that would ensue if Windows kept complaining that you dont have the recommended drivers for any given part?
