Well the press conferences have come and gone, so it's time for my thoughts...

PS3 looks like a monster. If the videos they showed are even close to the final product, it'll be some pretty sweet hardware. It's obviously a step ahead of Xbox 360 in power (at this point anyway). The design of the system though...is ugly. And don't get me started on the controller design. Looks like Sony will retain their top spot with this thing though.

Xbox 360, what can I say, their press conference wasn't much better than the MTV special. A lot of games still look like crap. Xbox Live has some interesting features, but they have yet to show me anything yet that would get me to purchase this thing. Pretty shoddy job overall from MS if you ask me, but at least the controller isn't shaped like a boomerang.

I'm excited about the Nintendo Revolution but also not, only because I still don't know much about it. This of course offers up plenty of internet speculation, but the things we do know are pretty neat. It's quite small, and the best looking of the three consoles (at least it's FLAT!!). Being able to download games from past Nintendo systems was a shocker to me. Mainly because I wrote that I wanted this exact feature 2 years ago, albeit in a handheld, but the idea remains. Of course I don't really need to download old games, but the feature is cool nonetheless.

Many people seem to think Nintendo had a horrible conference because they showed nothing, but when I was at E3 2000 they didn't show anything either, while Sony was gearing up for the PS2 launch (like MS is doing now) and MS was showing tech demos of the Xbox (like Sony is doing now). Nintendo just had a boring booth with Majoras Mask and Pokemon. They saved their Gamecube unveiling for Spaceworld of that year. I'd venture to guess they're just doing the same thing now that they did 5 years ago.

Interesting first peaks at the systems, but really I'm going to just focus on anticipating the games coming out this year (Fire Emblem, Wario Ware, Katamari 2, Electroplankton, Nintendogs, Dragon Quest 8, etc). Can't wait to see what else is in store over the next few days.
